Garlic!! Rocks our World…….

Old English gārlēac, from gār ‘spear’ (because the shape of a clove resembles the head of a spear) + lēac ‘leek.’

Garlic is just really amazing…I mean, garlic is really incredible. Very much incredible…..

Humans have been adding garlic to their diets for over 7,000 years now. Isn’t this glorious?

Garlic can add a lot of flavor to the simplest of meals, I personally love to put garlic in salads, marinate it in some olive oil with sea salt and then add it on top of chicken, beef, even put some on a piece of toast. 🙂 Yum!!

The young bulbs are pickled (in quite some countries) for three to six weeks in a mixture of sugar, salt, and spices. In eastern Europe, the shoots are pickled and eaten as an appetizer. Whoa!! Who knew?

People don’t really know what to call garlic, is it an herb, a seasoning, what is it?! Although, we can certainly know that it comes from the onion, shallot, leek, chive family. Quite the family, don’t you think? Garlic has quite the brothers and sisters….

Awesome Fact:

Even though garlic is grown globally, China is by far the largest producer of garlic, with around 40 billion pounds grown annually, accounting for over 81% of world output. India (4.6%) and South Korea (1.4%) follow, with Egypt (1.2%) for fourth place.

The United States (where garlic is grown in every state except Alaska….what is up Alaska?….) in ninth place (0.8%). This leaves 11% of global garlic production in countries that each produce less than 2% of global output.

Much of the garlic production in the United States is centered in Gilroy, California, which calls itself the “garlic capital of the world”. Nice!!

Amazing Fact:

Garlic is great for heart health, to not have cancer, to not get the cold ten times in one year….garlic is the stuff, garlic is the King for our overall health. From my own experience; it’s best to eat our garlic raw because then our body is able to absorb all the important, wonderful, strong nutrients that it needs from this fascinating bulb….isn’t this so cool?

Garlic ….

is a wonderful earthy bulb….
